In this Lenten reflection, Catholic author David L. Gray discusses the embodiment of trust and fearlessness in God’s will, as exemplified by Abraham’s near-sacrifice of Isaac in Genesis. He suggests that the liturgy prepares the faithful to hear God’s voice, be present, and offer all to Him, just as Abraham did. The writings of Paul and the Gospel’s account of the Transfiguration support this call to sacrifice and attentiveness. The season’s goal is to foster a dispossession of material attachment, demonstrating complete faith in God’s providence.
